There isn't an extra 1/16th of a note extra here. Not a molecule of music wasted. Love it when he climbs out on a limb and cuts it off, not knowing exactly where he's going, but lands on his feet like a cat. It's like - "what will we find here"? Don't know until you try.
John Mayer is great and well worth listening to. But it just underlines how great Jimi was. Jimi was the source and most others can only drink from it.
Those first chords sound kinda 'forced', but the rest of it is nice, really smooth feel to the guitar playing and it complements his voice nicely. Who cares if its 10 years old.

For example I like Jimi’s covers of all along the watchtower and like a rolling stone (both bob Dylan songs), and I think John Mayer’s live version of wait until tomorrow (Hendrix) was better than the original, also I liked his solo on bold as love better than the original.
